Contraceptive Injections such as Depo-Provera are progestin-only contraceptive, depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) long acting reversible hormonal contraceptive birth control drug that is injected every 3 months. It is an aqueous suspension for depot injection of the pregnane.

It is applied in the form of an intramuscular injection. The shot must be injected into the thigh or buttocks or deltoid four times a year and provides pregnancy protection instantaneously after the first injection

Estimated perfect use first-year failure rate for Contraceptive Injections is about 0.3%. However use of Contraceptive Injections has delayed return of fertility. The average return to fertility is 9 to 10 months after the last injection.
